Historic Sailing Trips, Local Food Tasting and…..Tea?

May is a busy time for guests at our bed and breakfast here in Kent County, Maryland.  There are lots of events and festivals to attend, graduation at Washington College is always the third full weekend, and sailing on the Sultana is in full swing.

A Taste of Chestertown

Coming up soon is an event that we’re especially fond of: Saturday, May 1st marks the 4th annual Taste of the Town:  a tasting extravaganza featuring sampler plates from Chestertown area restaurants and caterers.  The Brampton Inn will  be there again offering our brownies, scones and cookies.  New this year is the venue: we will be in Fountain Park (center of town) instead of Wilmer Park (riverside), and the event has been opened up to all of Kent County with an even greater variety of foods to sample.  It is held from 12-3 pm.  For more information and to purchase advance tickets, visit the Taste of Chestertown website.

Chesapeake Bay Sailing AdventureIf you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to sail on open water, here’s your chance, or chances, since there are 2 dates coming up in May.  On the 14th  and the 20th, the Schooner Sultana offers Public Day Sails:  5 to 8 hour port-to port transits.  If you are not sure of your sea-legs there are also 2-hour public sails offered all summer long. This has been a favorite activity of guests at our Maryland bed and breakfast for years.  For all the pertinent information, check out the Public Sailing programs offered on the Sultana.

On Memorial Day weekend, May 27th-29th, the Chestertown Tea Party Festival takes place in all its glory with music, games, vendors, a raft race, the tossing of the Tories (yes, the re-enactment actually involves grown men in period dress being “tossed” into the Chester River!), food, wine tastings, and a parade…You name it, and we bet it happens at the Chestertown Tea Party. The Sultana is a big part of this weekend as well, offering more public sails on this great holiday.  This is small town Americana at is best, and if you’ve never experienced it, you don’t want to miss it.  (Just as a point of order, this festival has nothing to do with the political group of the same name…)

These are just a few of the events taking place this spring in our quaint little town on the Eastern Shore of Maryland.  There really is something for everyone, so if you are looking for something a little different, check out some of the other great Activities in Kent County this Spring!
